It is funny to me to listen to people go on and on about "Web 2.0" as if it is some big revelation about what the web is and what it does.
The internet hasn't really changed much. Oh, yeah, we added video and "social networks" as well as blogging and podcasting, but that is just technology. Over time we will see so many iterations of new technology hit the web. The web continues to do wshat the web has always done from the time the internet was a black screen with green or amber letters.
The web connects people. It gathrs people. It rounds them up into herds or tribes or villages of mutual interest. That is always what it had done best from the advent to the first newsgroup to the future advent of a holographic, 3-D environment. Those are just the bells and whistles.
The netrepreneur was born in the mid 90's and between then and the beginning of the current millenium, marketing on the web has gone from theory to theory, but truth be told the principles of effective marketing have never actually changed. It boils down to making strong connections with the people who really want what you have. There are many business owners who will testify that spending thousands of dollars on a beautiful website doesn't necessarily mean anything to the bottom line.
Those who figure out the "secret sauce" that makes marketing on the web work well, already know that the real secret is to find out what people want and give it to them. Sounds way too simple. It is and it isn't. That is why you are reading this blog. That is what I hope to convey as we go along.
So stay tuned...
